Sabarimala temple’s annual pilgrimage begins today

The devotees will be allowed to climb up the hill to Sannidhanam from the base camp of Pampa by 1 pm and the doors of the sanctum sanctorum will open in the evening

The sanctum sanctorum of the hill shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa will remain open for 18 hours a day in two phases — from 3 am to 1 pm and again from 3 pm to 11 pm. (PTI)

Sabarimala temple to open for Makaravilakku festival today

As per a statement from the Travancore Devasom Board, pilgrims will be allowed entry to the temple from the morning of December 31, 2020 till January 19, 2021. The temple will be closed on January 20. Entry to the temple will be limited to only 5,000 pilgrims per day.

The Sabarimala temple will open on December 30 at 5 pm for the annual festival of ‘Makaravilakku’, officials said on Monday.(REUTERS)

Sabarimala temple to open from October 16: All you need to know

The temple was closed for devotees on March 18, a week before the first lockdown was put into place. In June there were plans to open the shrine but it was deferred after many organizations and the chief priest of the temple opposed it.

Sabarimala Temple to open for devotees on Oct 16 after lockdown to curb Covid-19

All pilgrims will have to carry Covid-19 negative certificates obtained 48 hours before reaching Pambha, the base camp, and those arriving without certificates will have to undergo a test and wait for its results before being able to visit the shrine.

Sabarimala priest for postponing temple opening, cites rising Covid-19 cases

The tantri said he has sent a letter to the TDB commissioner and spoke to TDB chairman N Vasu regarding the opening of the hill shrine.

The TDB runs Sabarimala (in Pathanamthitta district) and thousand-odd other temples in south and central Kerala. The tantri is usually considered as the final word on all ritualistic matters.
