The state capital not only has the highest number of school vehicles transporting children without the right permits and documents, but also the maximum number of passenger buses running past their fitness date.

Pune RTO penalises 200 school transport vehicles for flouting norms

As part of this drive, special squads constituted by the RTO have checked more than 500 school transport vehicles in the last six months and taken action against at least 200 such vehicles found violating the norms set by the state transport department

2 RTO employees killed in Fazilka road mishap

The driver while trying to save the three-wheeler lost control of the vehicle and it rammed into a roadside tree causing the death of Baldev and Desh Raj while Gagandeep and Sandeep sustained critical injuries and were admitted to the civil hospital, Fazilka. Fake complaints against auto, taxi drivers spam RTOs’ WhatsApp helpline

21 out of 549 complaints received by the Regional Transport Office in Wadala about auto and taxi drivers were found to be fake. Passengers have been misusing the WhatsApp number provided to vent their frustration. The auto and taxi union leaders have criticized this initiative and have demanded action against those filing fake complaints. Commuter activists and transport experts have advised passengers to be more careful when lodging complaints.

MLA Dhangekar demands action against school buses, vans not following norms in Pune

MLA Ravindra Dhangekar demanded strict action against 1,500 school buses and vans in Pune that are ferrying students without undergoing fitness tests. He said that it is critical that school vehicles follow norms strictly for safe transportation of students. The Pune RTO has inspected over 250 such vehicles and issued memos to 70 school vehicles without fitness certificates. Congress city senior leader Mohan Joshi also demanded that school buses must have a panic button, speed governor, fire extinguisher, first aid kit and an attendant. Dhangekar also demanded that the lifespan of school buses be increased to 20 years from the existing 15 years.

After many delays, new AC electric DD buses to hit the road
