Chandigarh: Looking to buy new vehicle? Going non-EV to hit you hard

The move comes two days after the Chandigarh administration had to roll back on its decision of imposing a stringent cap on registration of fuel-based two-wheelers. While initially the administration had decided to register electric and conventional two-wheelers at 70:30 ratio in 2023, it was forced to relax the target to 35:65, allowing registration of 65% non-electric two-wheelers in the current year in wake of widespread criticism.

The Chandigarh transport department has proposed a 3% hike in road tax for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Users of electric vehicles, however, are exempted from this tax. (AP)
