Lucknow University prepares for science congress, ISCA team inspects campuses

The Indian Science Congress Association inspected facilities at Lucknow University for the annual session to be held in January 2024, with parallel sessions of 11 different branches of science and a science exhibition expected. Preparations are underway, with student volunteers forming teams alongside teachers.

UGC disqualifies 4,305 journals of dubious nature

A study, published in the March 25 issue of the Current Science journal, had noted a spurt in the number of predatory and dubious journals offering ‘pay and publish’ services to gullible authors. 

A requirement that scholars get at least two research papers published in a University Grants Commission-approved journal before submitting their doctoral theses, coupled with pressure on university teachers to get their research published regularly in academic periodicals, has produced an unexpected side-effect: proliferation of dubious journals. (HT representational photo)

Teachers to lose jobs, students their registrations if found guilty of plagiarism

The draft rules for students states that in non-core areas, plagiarism of up to 10% would not invite any penalty while that of between 10% and 40% would mean the students will have to submit a revised research paper within six months.
