Manual scavengers struggle to start afresh despite rehab

In 2018, the government, for the first time, acknowledged the presence of manual scavengers in the national capital and identified 32 of them in east and northeast districts.

Delhi High Court seeks answers on manual scavenging

A bench of Justice G S Sistani and Justice Jyoti Singh said the affidavit should also highlight compliance with the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act and rehabilitation of manual scavengers.

Govt approves rehab project for manual scavengers in city

About 45 manual scavengers were identified in the three districts of Shahdra, North East Delhi and East Delhi during the state monitoring committee meeting on September 24 last year, a government spokesperson said.

On Thursday, the rehabilitation programme for manual scavengers, proposed by the social welfare department, was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.(HTfile)

In Haryana, four workers die inside septic tank

The deceased have been identified as permanent employee Anil Saini, 39, of Kaithal; part-time workers Sanjay Kumar, 26, of Uttar Pradesh , Dharmender, 35, and Ranjit Dhanak, 28, of Rohtak.
