Garbage burning resumes near Blue Ridge in Pune’s Hinjewadi

On Tuesday, residents witnessed black clouds spiralling out from an open plot, wherein garbage was set on fire, adjacent to the Blue Ridge Public School where children were engaged in their physical education class.

Air quality picks up after a month

Air quality of the city over the last week was the best in at least a month, as per data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Following a spate of ‘very poor’ quality of air between May 10 and 13, the air quality improved to ‘moderate’ for four days, to ‘satisfactory’ for one day and again, ‘very poor’ for one day between May 14 and 19.

Indian students bag US award for developing innovative app to check air quality index levels

A team of Delhi-based engineering college students has won a competition by US’ prestigious Marconi Society for developing an innovative mobile application that estimates the quality of air in one’s neighbourhood by analysing the images taken by a smartphone camera.

Mumbai’s air quality falls as rains recede; temperatures go up

Pune’s falling air quality index cause for alarm

On Tuesday, system of air quality and weather forecasting and research (SAFAR) showed that most areas in the city had ‘satisfactory’ air quality but the air quality at Lohegaon was moderate with high presence of nitrogen dioxide.

Planning to take a smoke break? Just breathe in Pune’s air which equals 9.1 cigarettes a day

A new smart phone application, ‘Shoot! I Smoke’, launched in Paris last month, attempts to put in perspective just how dangerous the levels of air pollution across the world is. On Sunday, May 27, 2018, the reading on the app for Pune had the air quality on Bund Garden road as being as polluted as smoking 9.1 cigarettes.

The app uses location-specific data for the PM2.5 pollutant to calculate the quality of air in relation to cigarette smoke. PM2.5 is floating particulate matter that include both organic and inorganic pollutants.(HT REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO)

Pune’s Mayfair Housing Society residents’ health in jeopardy as dust invades their life

A spot visit by Hindustan Times revealed that dry sand was being dumped into the large open plot during night time to raise the ground level. However, persistent dumping has brought the sand level up to the second floor of the housing society, seriously affecting the health of the B-building residents and also affecting their daily life.
