HC seeks U.P. reply on provisions for stray animals’ protection

This order was passed by a division bench comprising chief justice Arun Bhansali and justice AR Masoodi on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by a local lawyer Archana Singh Tomer in person in 2006. The petitioner had raised the issue of protection of stray animals in the PIL.

Delhi has sufficient shrines, imperative to save forests: HC

The Delhi high court rejected a plea to protect two religious structures in Sanjay Van, stating that Delhi already has enough temples and dargahs. The court emphasized the need to restore the forest and remove unauthorized constructions on public land for the betterment of society and to combat pollution. The plea was made by a promoter of Delhi's history who expressed concerns about the demolition of the structures. The court disposed of the plea, stating that the structures declared as a part of national heritage or protected by a statutory authority will not be demolished.

On nudge by HC, Delhi forms panel to save deemed forest

The Delhi forest and wildlife department has formed an internal committee to discuss and protect the city's deemed forests. The committee will meet monthly and submit reports to the court. Deemed forests in Delhi are areas over 2.5 acres with over 100 trees per acre, as well as stretches of roads and drains with the same tree density. The committee will be responsible for identifying and protecting these forests. The forest department has already demarcated over 2,000 hectares of deemed forest land using satellite imagery and GIS data.
