Data errors, digitisation problems caused mismatch in list: NRC official

When the NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela’s office announced the final list on Saturday, the total number of applicants was 33,027,661.

Operating out of his office on the first floor of a multi-storied building in Guwahati’s busy GS Road, the 50-year-old IIT-Delhi alumnus put together a closely knit team that oversaw the Rs1,200 crore process that involved 55,000 officials and 66.4 million documents.

In Assam NRC final list, over 19 lakh people excluded

According to details made available by the state coordinator for NRC Prateek Hajela, a total of 19,06,657 applicants, of the 33 million who had applied to be included in the list that identifies Indian citizens, failed to make the final cut.

Supreme Court says no to extending July 31 deadline for finalising Assam NRC

The SC direction came after Prateek Hajela, the Assam NRC coordinator, informed the bench that many persons, who had objected to inclusion of certain individuals in the draft NRC, are not coming forward before the panels dealing with such complaints.

Only one lakh out of 40 lakh left out of Assam draft NRC list have filed claims so far

The complete NRC draft list, which was published on July 30, excluded 40,07,707 persons, who risk becoming illegal immigrants unless their claims for inclusion pass rounds of verification, which are likely to start once the process of submitting claims finishes on November 28.
