Make gram chaupals more powerful: Maurya to officials

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya reviewed the working of the rural development department in a high-level meeting held in his camp office at 7- Kalidas Marg on Friday. The reservation rules in recruitment of staff by the department should be implemented strictly. A list of all vacant posts should be released, he said.

Maurya told the officers to visit the field to review the quality of work and monitor the progress of the projects launched by the department. (HT FILE)

Union Budget 2020: Centre slashes MGNREGS fund by 9,000 crore

The government has slashed funds for India’s flagship rural job guarantee programme, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), by ₹9,500 crore when rural economy has been feeling the heat over stagnant wages and high food inflation.

Green rural roads go past 20,000-km mark

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is a nationwide plan to provide road connectivity to unconnected villages. Under the initiative, 5,62,047 km of new and improved rural road network has been created, according to official data.
