1947 Partition studies in DU may begin with ‘8th century invasions’

New Delhi “Germs of separatism that the central leadership failed to contain”; “the way Congress Working Committee consented to Partition without consulting Gandhi”; and “the reason for the non-insistence of central leadership on having the Frontier Province with India” — these are some of the questions that will be investigated by a new centre for Independence and Partition Studies to be set up by Delhi University, according to a draft concept note issued by an eight-member panel set up by the university to oversee the upcoming centre

International Museum Day: Delhi to rekindle tales of the Partition

Delhi’s Partition museum is all set to open its doors to public from May 19. It houses memorabilia from the 1947 Partition of India. Some artifacts are also from the time when Delhiites got a chance to travel back to their ancestral homes, which are now in present day Pakistan. Evoking nostalgia are 40 articles donated by families, and five installations alongside several photographs at this museum housed in Dara Shukoh Library at Kashmere Gate.

Amritsar’s Partition Museum shortlisted for UK prize

The museum in Amritsar was inaugurated in August 2017 as the first and only partition museum in the world, housing oral histories, donated personal artefacts and archival material, dedicated to those who lost their lives or loved ones in the largest mass migration in human history.

Golden Temple, Partition Museum, Wagah Border and more: 5 reasons to visit Amritsar

Mythologically speaking, Amritsar is also believed to have hosted the ashram of Rishi Valmiki from The Ramayana, where Goddess Sita resided and gave birth to her two sons. Coincidentally, the cities of Lahore and Kasur, across the border in Pakistan and founded by the legendary Luv and Kush are not far away from Amritsar.

The Golden Temple has impeccable management and hence visiting it is so hassle free and systematic.

JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE : Year on, Amritsar admn yet to identify spot to build memorial

It has been nearly a year since Capt Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government had directed the cultural affairs and tourism department to build a memorial with soil from all 13,000 villages of Punjab to mark centenary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, but the authorities have failed to even identity a spot for the memorial in the holy city.

Partition Museum to ink pact with Manchester Museum

The partnership is due to be announced in New Delhi during the forthcoming visit of Andy Burnham (Labour), mayor of Greater Manchester, as part of the Manchester India Partnership that seeks to further links between the city and India.
