TikTok faces criticism as NCW leads calls for ban over hate content

TikTok, a video-sharing social networking site owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, where millions of Indians post short videos of just about anything is in the midst of a storm with the National Commission of Women and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh both turning their guns on it.

Chandigarh: St Kabir School fails to get high court’s nod to admit general category students in EWS quota

The Punjab and Haryana high court (HC) has not granted permission to the Sector 26-based St Kabir School to admit general category students against 25% seats reserved for students from economically weaker sections (EWS) in nursery classes. Though a detailed order is awaited, the HC bench of justice Arun Monga, while disposing of the plea, said it would hear the main appeal listed for January 10.

Review child guardianship laws: NCW to Government

The set of recommendations, reviewed by HT, moot changes in the 1956 Hindu and Guardianship Act and asks that mothers be considered the default legal guardian in cases where the woman has been deserted by the husband or divorced.

NCW has recommended the mother should be declared natural guardian in conventional cases. In the case of children born out of wedlock, the body recommended that the law make the father equally responsible for the child’s upbringing.(HT File)
