State orders SIT probe into irregularities in desilting and widening of Mithi river

The state government will set up an SIT to probe alleged irregularities in the expenditure of ?1,160 crore on the Mithi river desilting project. The move is seen as an attempt to target Uddhav Thackeray and the Shiv Sena. An MLC from the BJP claimed that despite the large amount of money spent, the project remains incomplete. The Shiv Sena responded by sarcastically suggesting that the government should investigate and raid those involved in corruption. The industries minister announced the SIT inquiry and assured the relocation of affected residents.

Clear waste dumpsite from Mithi’s bank within two weeks: NGT to BMC

The National Green Tribunal has ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to clear a construction waste dumpsite on the bank of the Mithi River in Mumbai within two weeks. The dumpsite contains four lakh metric tonnes of waste and is leaching pollutants into the river. The BMC has requested an additional four weeks to comply with the order.

The Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC) has turned down the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) proposal seeking to build India’s longest suspension bridge for pedestrians across the Mithi River, citing a highly degraded condition of the water body

Murder in Mahim: Girlfriend held for instigating man to kill 2-yr-old son

The police said Rehmat strangulated his son, wrapped the body in a polythene sheet and tried to throw it in Mithi river. However, the body hit a cable and fell on a rock. If it had fallen in the river, it would have flown away and Rehmat’s plan of claiming his son as missing could have succeeded.

Man kills 2-yr-old son to fulfill girlfriend’s condition to marry

The police said that the accused, Rehmat Ali Shaukat Ali Ansari, 22, had strangulated his son in Hyatt Compound in Mahim, wrapped the body in a plastic sheet and dumped it in mangroves nearby. His 20-year-old girlfriend had agreed to marry him only if he got rid of his wife and son.
