‘Peddling fake news’: I&B ministry exposes 6 YouTube channels

Information and Broadcasting Ministry said these channels spread false information such as making claims regarding ban on electronic voting machines (EVM), falsely attributing the President or Chief Justice of India.

Govt's strong advisory to TV channels on reporting. It mentions Pant's accident

The government, in an advisory to private TV channels, said that reporting on certain crime stories were distasteful that can have adverse psychological impact on children.

Centre blocks 45 YouTube videos found spreading ‘lies’ on Agnipath, J&K

According to the ministry, the blocked videos had a cumulative viewership of over 1.30 crore views. The blocked content included fake news and morphed videos intended to spread hatred among religious communities.

The I&B ministry has, from time to time, issued orders to take down YouTube channels for spreading misinformation and threatening the country’s sovereignty under the new IT rules incorporated on February 25 last year.

I&B ministry proposes bill to regulate digital media outlets

“The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2022, seeks to replace the Press and Registration of Books (PRB) Act, 1867," the ministry said in a statement.

‘Anti-India’ content: Govt cracks down on 35 YouTube channels
