Two charred after car crashes into road divider in Matunga

Two brothers were killed and three others injured after a speeding car caught fire on Sion-Trombay road in Mumbai. The occupants were drinking throughout the night before the accident occurred in the early morning. The police suspect that the car was travelling at over 100 kmph and the CNG tank may have leaked, causing the fire. The driver, who is also the owner of the car, is expected to face charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving.

CR workers unearth 100-year-old tracks between Vidyavihar, Kurla

Usually when the railways find old, rusted pieces of metal on their property, they are sold as scrap to bidders through tenders. However, in this case, senior officials said they will retain a part of the unearthed GIPR tracks and it will be kept in the heritage gully at P D’mello side entrance of Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The rest of the old track is likely to be sold as scrap.

Vertical shades of green at CR stations

The Central Railway in Mumbai is planning to set up vertical gardens at 15 railway stations on its main and harbour lines as part of its Amrit Bharat Station scheme. The gardens will be located in and around concourse areas and will be used to improve the aesthetics of the stations and increase the green quotient. The gardens will cost around INR14.72 crore ($2.2m) and will be developed within a year of the contract being awarded.

Matunga society sends zero organic waste to dumping grounds

The society took to the project from Republic Day and from then on, has treated over 5,000kg of organic waste and produced 500 kg of manure, which is used to nurture over 300 plants and a 1,500 square-feet garden.
