Marathi was granted classical language status after two decades of efforts, recognizing its rich heritage and historical significance amidst political debates.

Request to grant classical status to Marathi language made through postcards to the President Ram Nath Kovind by Yuva Sena senate members, college cell officers, and students under the leadership of Subhash Desai, then Marathi language minister of Maharashtra. Around 6,000 letters were sent to him in 2022.
