A total of 32 unauthorised jhuggis, one cattle and one goat shed were removed in an eviction drive carried out by Chandigarh administration in Industrial Area Phase II on Saturday. The administration reclaimed around 2.5 acres of land.

The new panel was formed on the sidelines of the Board’s 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM), with Chetan Sharma pipping Maninder Singh and Vijay Dahiya from the north zone. The other two new members joining the selection committee were Abey Kuruvilla (West ZOne) and Debashish Mohanty (East Zone).

11 candidates shortlisted, Ajit Agarkar frontrunner to become chairman of selectors

As per the new BCCI constitution, the candidate with the most Test caps becomes the chief selector. Sunil Joshi, is currently the chairman, having played 15 Tests. Harvinder Singh is the other selector from Central Zone. Apart from Agarkar, Abey Kuruvilla and Nayan Mongia have applied from West. From the North Zone Chetan Sharma, Maninder Singh, Vijay Dahiya, Ajay Ratra and Nikhil Chopra and from East—Shiv Sunder Das, Debashish Mohanty and Ranadeb Bose are known to have applied.

Suicide in Canada: Jalandhar family seeks Centre’s help in tracing, bringing back son’s body

JALANDHAR A Jalandhar family has sought the Union government’s help in locating and bringing back the body of 29-year-old Manjot Singh, who reportedly committing suicide after jumping into the Fraser river in Vancouver, Canada, last month. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Manjot’s parents Maninder Singh and Surinder Kaur said he had taken the extreme step due to his “wife’s betrayal”, after sharing a suicide note on Facebook on January 23.
