Malabar Hill hsg soc shaken up by blasting in an adjoining site

Residents of a building in Malabar Hill, Mumbai, are concerned about the structural stability of their 60-year-old building after controlled blasting took place on a site adjoining their building. The plot, owned by Reliance Industries, is being developed into a tower. The building is also under review by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's coastal road department, as it is being constructed over a tunnel of the coastal road. The residents have written to various authorities requesting that the blasting be stopped. The police have confirmed that all necessary permissions were obtained for the controlled blasting.

2 high rises coming above twin coastal road tunnels asked to show plans again

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is reviewing two high-rise development projects in Mumbai for safety measures after a tunnel collapse in Silkyara. The projects are slated to be built above coastal road tunnels and the review comes after a complaint from a citizen-activist. The BMC has asked the building proposals department to review the projects and has sent a letter to the architecture firms involved. The main concern is the potential risk of heavy loads and digging endangering the tunnels. The purpose of the review is to ensure the highest safety standards are maintained.

Upset Malabar Hill residents suggest alternative sites for reservoir to save green cover

The BMC plans to reconstruct the dilapidated 140-year-old Malabar Hill reservoir below Hanging Garden. Before this is done, a 90MLD tank will be constructed at a site behind the garden so that water supply to South Mumbai is not disrupted during reconstruction

Kavas Petigara, an engineer by profession, suggested that a geological survey be conducted on Malabar Hill. “That will give us an idea of how strong the hill is and if it can take the weight of two reservoirs for water,” he said. 9 months of Shinde: ‘Real’ Shiv Sena still to find its feet

Shinde’s Sena came into existence nine months ago when he rebelled against then party chief Uddhav Thackeray, pulled down the MVA government and formed a government with the BJP.

Shinde’s colleagues themselves admit that the party looks good on paper but much needs to be done on the ground if a solid organisation has to be built. Despite the jubilation about being the “real” Shiv Sena, the fact remains that the party is limited to a bunch of MLAs, MPs and a few leaders. The ground-level organisation has remained with Uddhav Thackeray. (HT PHOTO)
