The department has proposed increasing the liquor quota of existing vends to compensate for the loss. However, liquor contractors are unhappy with the move, as they are already facing losses due to high taxes in Chandigarh compared to neighboring cities in Punjab. The department has so far collected only around ₹500 crore out of its target of ₹830 crore in license fees.
