MU student alleges examiner did not check half of the answers

A third-year law student at the University of Mumbai (MU) has alleged that five out of 10 answers in one of his semester-five examination papers were not checked by the examiner. As a result, no marks were given for these answers and he failed in the subject, with a score of 20.5 marks.

Two SHOs among 10 GB Nagar policemen booked under SC/ST Act for assaulting law student

Ten Gautam Budh Nagar police personnel, including two officers, have been booked for allegedly assaulting a law student in Greater Noida last year. The student, from the Dalit community, had reported an immoral trafficking racket. The incident came to light after the student shared video clips of the assault on social media. The police had earlier filed a complaint against the student for extortion, but the case was dismissed by the court. The student has now filed an FIR against the police personnel under charges of assault and the SC/ST Act. Investigation is underway.

The student, Samrita Shankar, who graduated with a BBA LLB (Hons.), originally received her provisional certificate on July 10 carrying her father’s name alone as is the common practice.

In her letter to the dean, Shankar also pointed to a directive issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1998 after taking note of the discriminatory nature of the practice of including the father’s name alone in the degree certificate of a student.
