This was largely down to light to moderate showers being recorded through the month and the early arrival of the southwest monsoon.

Isolated rain fails to keep searing heat in city at bay

Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 36.7°C on Wednesday, one degree above normal for this time of year, with isolated parts experiencing a drizzle in the morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said southwesterly winds blew towards the region in the last 24 hours, which brought some moisture from the Arabian sea, leading to localised rain spells in some parts. The rise in mercury is likely to continue, with temperatures forecast to touch 37°C on Thursday, 38°C by Friday and 39°C on Saturday, and cross the 40-degree mark by Sunday.

Weather dept plans push for citizens to chip in with weather tips

The IMD had last year issued a link to allow people to report on weather events in their area. Met officials said that in March, just over 300 inputs were received through its website https://mausam.imd.gov.in/, where a ‘public observation’ section has been created
