23 kg gold seized at Kozhikode airport, passengers from 7 flights searched

Customs officials said this is one of the biggest haul in recent times in the country. The operation was carried out jointly by a team of the sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the customs department after a tip-off.

Gold worth Rs 81.2 lakh seized from Kozhikode Airport

According to the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), in the first instance, about 1.6 kg gold worth approximately Rs 77 lakh was seized from inside a battery case of a Bluetooth speaker from a passenger travelling from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

DGCA bans use of wide-body aircraft at Kozhikode airport for monsoon season

Wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A350 have a bigger fuel tank and can therefore travel longer distances in comparison with narrow-body planes like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.

‘Kozhikode plane crash not an accident but murder’: Air safety expert Capt Mohan Ranganathan

Ranganathan explained how table-top runways, the one in the case of the Kozhikode airport, have very little space and therefore require more safety features. “There’s no escape for an aircraft if it overruns,” Ranganathan told HT.
