Cattle, goats killed in landslide, vets to rescue of injured

D Ratnakar Kale, district animal husbandry commissioner, Raigad district, said, “Three bulls and a calf were found dead on Thursday, while a goat and a kid were found dead on Friday. Our team has treated 11 goats and 10 cattle injured in the landslide.”

16 dead, over 100 feared trapped in landslide in Raigad district village

Rescue operations by NDRF and other local bodies at Irshalwadi a challenge due to bad weather; will resume today

Volunteers from Thane, Navi Mumbai and Raigad districts had arrived earlier to help in the rescue operation. “Ground zero presented a devastating sight – the mudslide had buried the entire village. Some families were wiped out completely. We had to remove the debris manually, till teams from NDRF and Thane Disaster Relief Force arrived. The rain made our job difficult,” said Mohammed Hanif Hussain Karjikar, from Aapda Mitra, a volunteer organisation from Khopoli. He added, a group of 50 to 60 workers landed up at the site soon. Irshalwadi was not in list of landslide prone spots: Shinde

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the tragedy-hit Irshalwadi village, which was not on the list of landslide-prone locations for rehabilitation. Temporary accommodation has been arranged for the rescued, with plans for permanent rehabilitation. Shinde saluted the rescue work being done by the NDRF and other teams. The state is focusing on the rescue operation and rehabilitation, with support from the Centre.

Landslide victims of Taliye yet to get houses from government

In the torrential rains on July 22, 2021, 89 villagers of Taliye lost their lives on account of a landslide in the Kondalkarwadi and Boudhawadi areas. Five more hamlets also had to be relocated along with these two, as they were on the fault line and could have faced landslides later

At present, 25 families of Taliye village are living in 25 containers which were transported from Mumbai as temporary accommodation. One container is being used as a school. The district official said that other families had moved to Mahad, Mumbai and Surat. (Hindustan Times)
