Excess exposure to light led to VVPAT malfunctioning in bypolls: EC

Quoting preliminary fact-finding reports by its two teams, the election commission said the failure of contrast sensors and length sensors were the two major technical reasons for malfunctioning of VVPAT machines during the May 28 bypolls to Kairana and Bhandara Gondiya Lok Sabha seats.

Except BJP, all defeated candidates lose their deposits in Kairana bypoll

Joint opposition candidate Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Tabassum Hasan won the Kairana Lok Sabha seat defeating BJP’s Mriganka Singh by a margin of 44,618 votes.

61% voter turn out in repolling at 73 Kairana booths

Opposition Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal as well as the ruling BJP had complained of electronic voting machines (EVM) malfunctioning at these Kairana booths.
