Order for withdrawal of American troops from Syria signed, says US military

US president Donald Trump has declared the jihadist group “largely defeated,” and made the surprise decision to bring US forces home -- a move that many US politicians and international allies fear is premature and would further destabilize the already devastated region.

US to stop refuelling Saudi aircraft fighting in Yemen amid global outrage over Khashoggi murder

The United States is halting refueling of aircraft from the Saudi-led coalition engaged in Yemen, the US and Saudi Arabia said. Saudi Arabia, in a statement, said it had decided to request an end to US aerial refueling for its operations in Yemen because it could now handle it by itself.

Critics of the Saudi campaign have long questioned US involvement in the Yemen war, which has killed more than 10,000 people, displaced more than 2 million and led to widespread famine in the country since it began in 2015.(Reuters/Picture for representation)

Under current US rules, third countries can face sanctions for deals with Russia’s defence or intelligence sectors. President Donald Trump recently signed a defence spending bill that amended the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act to grant waivers against certain conditions that India fulfils easily.

Officials said CAATSA and its impact on India’s military readiness is “a matter of continuing discussions between India and the US”. Aspects related to the US sanctions will be discussed at the 2+2 talks on September 6, one of the officials said.(Reuters)
