Since 2018, Shakti, a resident of slums in Bhandup, came across two problems in his area; garbage lying around the slums, and people struggling to get a meal at times

HT visited one such event on Sunday June 11 in Bhandup east. Deepak Maru is one of the children there. Maru collected 100 bottles in the last 3-4 days. “I was told the one to get the maximum bottle gets the price. There is so much garbage around the nallah nearby that it is easy to get the bottles. I am looking forward to see what the price is.” Maru wins the first prize in this event and gets a ration kit as a winning prize. (Hindustan Times)

Excise dept to issue MRP list with liquor permit for pvt events, says Harpal Singh Cheema

The excise department in Punjab, India has started issuing a list of maximum retail prices for liquor along with permits for private functions to prevent people being ripped off by the "liquor mafia". The permits only allow the applicant to serve liquor to private guests, and no quantity can be sold to anyone for consideration. Finance, excise and taxation minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the measure would encourage people to buy liquor from licensed shops and discourage illegal trade.

EWS students: Hope for kids to study beyond Class 8

Under the RTE Act, economically weaker students who passed Class 8 will continue studying till Class 12 with the support of benevolent people and CSR funding. New tech boosting recovery of stolen phones

As per an RTI, in 2019, out of 43,397 mobile handsets that were reported stolen or lost in the city, only 2,088 phones were recovered. In 2020, 39,819 phones were reported missing or stolen, out of which, 1,916 were recovered. Similarly, in 2021, out of 51,030 missing phones, only 3,230 was recovered.
