I do not like BJP with Shinde, Ajit: Mungantiwar stirs controversy

“I like the party which believes and is committed to the services to the nation. Joining hands with anybody does not make any difference. We are blamed for breaking parties, but it is not that we broke the parties. Vibhishan cannot be blamed for parting ways with his own brother Ravan, to side with Lord Ram (based on ideology),” he said

The senior BJP leader’s remarks led to the controversy in the backdrop of rumours that there are differences between the three ruling parties (Shiv Sena, BJP, NCP). “The remarks were surprising as they came from a senior BJP leader in the backdrop of the rising instances of the differences between the three ruling parties. It is also seen as an indication of the unrest within BJP and its loyalist leaders,” a BJP leader said on the condition of anonymity. (Anshuman Poyrekar/HT PHOTO)

Right time to create new leadership, says Pawar

The remarks assume significance against the backdrop of the widespread speculation that his nephew and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar is to join hands with the ruling BJP along with a group of MLAs. Ajit Pawar is considered Number Two in the party after the senior Pawar and wields influence over a significant number of MLAs. However, both Pawar and Ajit have dismissed the speculation.

The NCP leader averred that all party members needed to have clarity on ideology while working for the party. “Why have we accepted NCP? Why are we working for it? Why do we take the names of Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar? What ideals have these personalities left for us (to follow)?” he said, hinting that the party could never compromise on its ideology. (Satish Bate/HT PHOTO)

Meanwhile, Ameya Ghole, a close aide of MLA Aaditya Thackeray, resigned from the party's youth wing and joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of chief minister Eknath Shinde. Two leaders of the BJP in Maharashtra have distanced themselves from the state's higher education minister Chandrakant Patil's comments that Shiv Sena workers were not present during the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar called it Patil's opinion, adding that the BJP did not want to indulge in a credit race regarding the Ram Janmabhumi movement. The NCERT textbook debate is unnecessary

Textbooks must change as the curriculum needs to be continuously revised to address gaps and make them more relevant and inclusive

As a social scientist and an administrator, I am dismayed to read in some sections of the media allegations that corrections and improvements made in the NCERT history textbooks are deliberate distortions or rewriting of our history, that today’s historians are less competent, and that they are erasing parts of our history under the influence of a particular ideology.
