Five get 6 years in jail for robbing passenger in last local on Harbour Line

According to the prosecution, the complainant, Mahadeo Zore was travelling from Mankhurd to Wadala and had taken the last local on December 30, 2016.

Inside the coach, the accused snatched his gold chain, golden earring, mobile phone and whatever cash he had in his pocket, said the prosecution, adding that when the complainant tried to defend himself, the accused assaulted him with a knife because of which Zore sustained injuries to his face. CR workers unearth 100-year-old tracks between Vidyavihar, Kurla

Usually when the railways find old, rusted pieces of metal on their property, they are sold as scrap to bidders through tenders. However, in this case, senior officials said they will retain a part of the unearthed GIPR tracks and it will be kept in the heritage gully at P D’mello side entrance of Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The rest of the old track is likely to be sold as scrap.

Centre derails two multi-crore rail projects under MUTP 3A

The Central government has cancelled the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Panvel elevated fast corridor and the Virar-Vasai-Panvel suburban rail line, as well as reducing the number of air-conditioned local trains from 210 to 191. These projects were part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project 3A, and were set to cost more than INR21,000 crore ($3.15bn). The decision has been criticised as it comes as infrastructure projects in the region are expanding, including the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, new airport and metro lines.

State govt gives 100-cr boost to MUTP

The Maharashtra government has agreed to release ?100 crore immediately towards the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), out of the pending amount of ?1,512 crore. The decision comes after officials from Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) met with chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The MRVC will receive funds for the MUTP-3 and 3A projects with a cumulative total of over ?44,600 crore, including new suburban rail corridors and the expansion of Harbour line. The Indian Railways have provided funds of ?5,932 crore while the Maharashtra government has disbursed ?4,421 crore over the years.

Central Railway gets 7 CCTVs in yard to boost security on long-distance trains

In a bid to improve the safety of passengers on outstation trains, the Central Railway (CR) has installed seven closed circuit televisions (CCTV) cameras on the maintenance pit lines at its Wadi Bunder zonal railway yard. The cameras will capture the images under the coach frames of outstation trains in the yard and highlight the minute maintenance required for the trains.
