2017 Panchkula arson case Another 126 acquitted due to lack of evidence

A court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ajay Kumar, has acquitted all 126 accused in a presnt case related to violence that occurred in Panchkula on August 25, 2017, following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

29 acquitted over lack of identification in 2017 Panchkula violence case

The acquitted accused hailed from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and New Delhi. Additionally, three other accused who were nominated in this FIR had died. The charges were framed against the accused in 2019, and the trial began subsequently.

Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim walks out of jail again, 13th temporary release since 2020

Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s paroles and furloughs have shown a pattern where these collide with elections. He had earlier got a 30-day parole before the Delhi assembly elections and 20-day parole before the Haryana assembly elections in October last year.

{2017 Panchkula arson case} 69 acquitted as prosecution’s case falls flat

The accused, hailing from various states including Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, were charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

The court also noted the failure of the prosecution to conduct an identification parade, which was deemed crucial given the large number of alleged assailants. (File)
