Punjab records 11.87% growth in GST, higher than national average

Punjab has achieved 11.87% growth in net Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection up to January in the current financial year, compared to 2023-24. This growth rate surpasses the national average of 10%. Besides, Punjab has witnessed a net growth of 15.33% in excise and a total of 11.67% in taxes from net GST, excise, VAT, CST, and PSDT in the current financial year, said state finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema

Punjab GST mop-up surged in 3rd quarter after poor first half

The 5.97% year-on-year growth in GST mop-up in the first six months of 2024-25 was the slowest in four years, but the collection of ₹6,518.57 crore during the October-December quarter on account of better consumption and increased compliance more than made up for the shortfall

The total collection during the April-December period of 2024-25 stood at <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>17,318.21 crore, up 11.98% from <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>15,464.79 crore in the same months of the previous fiscal, according to data of key fiscal indicators.

Chandigarh’s GST collection grew 20% in November

In October, Chandigarh saw an increase of 16% against the gross levy collected during the corresponding period in 2023; the collection for October was ₹243 crore, ₹33 crore more than ₹210 crore collected during the same month in 2023

In July, Chandigarh recorded an increase of 8% against the gross levy collected during the corresponding period in 2023. The collection for July stood at <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>233 crore, <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>16 crore more than <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>217 crore collected in 2023. 18% GST collection in state in 4 months; highest in India

Maharashtra's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection has grown steadily by 18% from April to July this year, outpacing the national growth rate of 11-12%. The state's revenue stood at INR 33,196 crore ($4.6 billion) in April, dropped in May, but rose again in June and July. The growth is attributed to the strong performance of the services and manufacturing sectors, as well as efforts by the central government to curb tax evasion. Maharashtra's GST collection in 2022-23 was INR 2,70,346 crore, accounting for 15% of the country's total collection.
