Manoj Saunik is state’s new chief secretary

In the race for the top post along with Saunik was his batch mate and wife Sujata Saunik, which was reported by HT in a story titled, ‘Saunik vs Saunik: Who will be the next chief secretary of the state?’ on March 24. Sujata Saunik is ACS, general administration department. The third contender for the post was Nitin Kareer, additional chief secretary (revenue).

Saunik, a journalist-turned-bureaucrat, was the private secretary to the then union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde, from February 2006 to July 2009, and then in the department of defence production for two years, till November 2012. He has been heading the finance department since August 2019. He was in the competition for the post of CS during the MVA regime, but Srivastava was picked for the post by the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in February 2022. (HT PHOTO)

Second phase of Bihar caste census to begin today

Several schoolteachers’ unions have given a call for boycotting the caste survey work in protest against the new rules rolled out by the state government for teacher recruitment a few days back.

TG writes to CM for mentioning them as ‘caste’, instead of gender for caste survey

Reshma Prasad, founder secretary of Dostana Safar, which espouses the concerns of members from the third gender community, in her letter to the CM, requested him to issue orders to mention TG as a gender; remove its reference as a caste, and to allow them to specify their caste at birth, along with their TG identity, during the survey.

Twin suicides at Mantralaya trigger crowd-thinning measures

On an average, 15,000 visitors come to Matralaya on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays because the cabinet is held on Tuesdays and all ministers are present there in the first half of the week. For the rest of the week, the number of visitors thins down to about 10,000 per day, say state secretariat officials.

Nine policemen suspended as former Tripura minister continues to evade arrest

Andhra Pradesh hires two trains for 1.12 cr for Chandrababu Naidu’s Delhi protest against Centre

The General Administration Department has released ₹1.12 crore to hire the trains with 20 compartments each from the South Central Railway.

According to the orders issued by the Department, the trains from Ananthapur and Srikakulam will transport leaders of political parties, organisations, NGOs and associations to the national capital to enable them to participate in the one-day ‘Deeksha’ protest.(PTI)

Odisha govt to ‘disengage’ 50,000 retired employees

A government source said a decision to this effect was taken last month during a meeting of secretaries of all departments. Disengagement of retired persons from government services was a logical step when largescale recruitment was on in several departments, the source added.

An official said that over the next 10 months, the Naveen Patnaik government is planning to recruit 27,000  doctors, police sub-inspectors, constables, junior clerks, revenue inspectors, assistant executive engineers, junior engineers, veterinary surgeons, junior clerks and fire officers, among others.(PTI/File Photo)
