20-lakh bribery case: HC stays absconding SP’s arrest till Feb 6

The Punjab and Haryana high court has granted interim relief from arrest to absconding superintendent of police Gagnesh Kumar in a bribery case. The court has also ordered Punjab Police to file a detailed reply and investigate inspector general of police Pardeep Kumar Yadav in the case.

J&K high court CJ to visit gaushala in Nagrota

The division bench has asked the commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), director of animal husbandry Jammu and municipal veterinary officer of the JMC to remain present during the chief justice’s visit to the cattle pond/gaushala

The division bench also directed the advocates representing the petitioner and the administration, the petitioner, chairman of SAVE and others to remain present during the visit.

Main accused held in Karnal cows’ poisoning case

The Karnal police along with the special task force (STF), Ambala, have arrested a person on the charges of poisoning the cows. The police said that the accused has been identified as Vijay Singh, a resident of Patiala, and presently residing at Deha Basati in Ambala.

Gaushala watchman hacked to death with axe in Hisar

Hisar police spokesperson Vikas Kumar said the victim had a fight with two persons --Aman and Kapil, both working at the same cow-shelter. The duo has allegedly been missing from the gaushala since the murder.

Madhya Pradesh behind BJP-ruled Rajasthan, Haryana in protecting its cows

The Madhya Pradesh government allocated Rs 4.5 per cow (per day) housed in government-run cattle shelters in the state in 2017-18. That’s 50 paise more than the allocation in the previous year.

Cow cess not collected in Punjab, reports CAG; gau panel chief says SAD-BJP ‘did drama’

Levied by the SAD-BJP govt that was in power for 10 years before March last year, the cess was ₹10 on each bottle of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and ₹5 on each bottle of beer and country liquor.

As per data available with the Punjab Gau Sewa (cow welfare) Commission, there are 3.8 lakh cows being looked after in the 512 gaushalas, and more than 1 lakh roam the streets.(HT File)
