The Chhattisgarh ST Commission has found that the process of obtaining forest clearance (FC) for the Parsa coal block in Surguja district was tainted with multiple irregularities and fabricated entries.

Forty-one residents of three villages – Salhi, Hariharpur, and Fatehpur – that fall under the Parsa coal block filed a complaint with the ST commission on August 8, 2021, alleging their consent for mining was fabricated. (HT Photo)

FAC defers decision on police battalions in Assam’s forests

The Forest Advisory Committee has decided to defer its decision on ex-post facto forest clearance to police battalions being constructed in violation of the Forest Conservation Act in Hailakandi.

The minutes of FAC’s meeting held on August 27, available on Parivesh website, state that FAC has also directed the regional office of Union environment ministry to complete proceedings against the officers responsible for violation. (AFP)
