Punjab second-most indebted state in country, reveals data

Punjab has the second-highest debt-GSDP ratio in India at 46.6%, with estimated liabilities of ₹3.78 lakh crore by March 2025, as per the finance minister.

Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary shared this information on the estimated outstanding liabilities and debt to GSDP ratio of all states as on March 31, 2025, in response to Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari’s unstarred question in the Lok Sabha in this regard.

Haryana Congress leader Hooda picks holes in 2025-26 budget estimates

The former chief minister said that the increase in 2025-26 budget outlay was not 13% as claimed by the chief minister in his budget address. “The increase is 7.6%. And if we consider the 4.8% inflation as mentioned in economic survey, the actual increase will be 3.1%,” Hooda said.

During the general discussion on the budget estimates, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said though the chief minister claimed in his budget address that the revenue deficit, fiscal deficit and debt to GSDP ratio was within prescribed limits, a 2022-23 audit report of the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) tells a different story.
