Assam Pollution Control Board orders complete ban on firecrackers in Guwahati

In an order, the board said decision has been taken in view of high pollution in the city with the air quality being in the “poor” category. In areas other than Guwahati, only green crackers have been allowed for two hours on Diwali-from 8pm to 10pm.

Elephant protects 4-yr-old from others in herd after she falls from scooter

An elephant stood guard to protect a four-year-old girl, who had fallen down from a scooter, from other members of the herd in Jalpaiguri district Thursday, forest officials said.

After a while, the elephants went into the other side of the jungle and Ghosh resumed his journey, officials said.(Reuters (Representative Image))
