PEC director approaches HC against his relieving orders from Chandigarh administrator

Setia, a professor (civil engineering) from NIT Kurukshetra, was appointed the PEC director in August 2021 for a period of five years. His relieving orders were issued on May 16 with effect from June 3 as the retirement age, as per PEC’s Memorandum of Association (MOA), is 62.

MP nursing body disqualifies 2,697 teachers from other states

Madhya Pradesh Nursing Council on Saturday declared 2,697 nursing teachers – about 20% of the total faculty – from outside the state disqualified for teaching, as they failed to get themselves “live registered” with the state nursing body.

Women’s safety in DU colleges: Have to deal with stares almost on a daily basis, say students

Female students at Delhi University?s Mata Sundri College for Women face safety challenges outside the institute, in addition to concerns within the college premises. The college is close to the Rouse Avenue district court complex, but students report inadequate security outside. They are frequently the subject of unwanted attention from men, while the area surrounding the college is dangerous. The college?s principal, Harpreet Kaur, said that the college would look into the issue and take it up with the authorities.

Master’s course in public health, re-hiring policy in works at Delhi University

The committee gave its clearance, and suggested that the institute could initiate the course with an intake of 20 students per year from the upcoming academic session. The varsity has also framed guidelines for the re-employment of “research-oriented academicians” post-retirement, officials said.

PGI governing body meeting: 2 nominated members from institute yet to be finalised

At the governing body meeting, agendas related to the institute’s academics, functioning and research are discussed and approved. All the agendas approved in the institute’s standing estate committee, standing selection committee, standing finance committee, and standing academic committee, are also mandated to be approved by the governing body for final nod.

When college staff double up as house helps and waiters

Teachers have petitioned before HC since 2010 for the government to implement the pay commission. However, soon after the HC ruling, it declared that the treasury was low on funds, and the matter was put on the back-burner.

Participating in the strike is an Ahmednagar based professor of Marathi, Dyaneshwar Khilaree, who waits tables at an eatery in his city to earn <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>8000. He has been a college professor for more than two decades. He slips into his eight-hour evening shift after working in the college for five hours, which gives him <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>5000 each month. “The extra money helps my family survive,” said Khilaree.
