Bill allowing change of power connections like telecom in queue in Parliament

According to the Lok Sabha bulletin issued on July 12, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021, is one of the new 17 bills to be introduced during the ongoing Monsoon session.

The proposed amendments in the electricity Act include the de-licensing of the power distribution business, among others.

Delhi’s revised power tariffs likely to be announced by month-end

The power regulator, which is an independent and quasi-judicial body, will also not hold a press conference to announce the revised tariffs, officials said.

Various RWAs criticised the DERC for completely doing away with the practice of conducting a public hearing, with some even saying that they would file a petition in the Appellate Tribunal of Electricity against the move.

On April 17, the Centre issued a draft proposal for the amendment of Electricity Act, 2003, in the form of draft Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, 2020 , inviting comments from stakeholders within 21 days. The deadline was later extended till June 2.

Bains booked for restoring power connections in Jalandhar

The police here have booked Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) chief and Ludhiana MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains in two cases for illegally restoring the electricity connections of families at various locations on March 11. Power connections of these households had been severed by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for non-payments of bills.

Ardee infra directed to refund additional charges in electricity bills

The order comes two years after residents moved a petition in the HERC in August 2017, stating the builder charged them 12% of the total electricity bill per month under categories like ‘administrative’, or others, in violation of HERC provisions.

Residents had, in April 2016, taken the matter up with the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), which also said the additional collections of 12% were against HERC provisions.(HT Photo)

UP: Discoms to pay up to 30% of consumer’s previous bill in case of performance glitches

The UP Power Corporation Ltd owned discoms or other power utilities in the state may soon be liable to paying a fine to consumers if they (the companies) fail to meet the specified standards of performance (SoPs) while delivering various services.
