High level committee approves Rs 3,113 cr for 5 states as disaster relief

The committee led by Union home minister Amit Shah approved additional central assistance to the five states and UT, which were affected by floods, cyclones (Nivar and Burevi) and pest attack during 2020.

Centre approves Rs4,381 cr additional aid to 6 states hit by cyclones, floods

A day after his visit to the Amphan-hit states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on May 23 announced assistance of Rs 1,000 crore to West Bengal and Rs 500 crore to Odisha which was released for immediate relief activities, the Centre said.

Forest Dept will undertake plantation drive along sea beach in Digha

Forest minister Rajib Banerjee on Tuesday said sturdy trees, which are not easily uprooted during severe storms and which will go well with the soil character of the area, will be preferred for plantation while some of the felled trees will be replanted in the project which will be completed by this time in 2021.

‘It is 10% here’: Bengal CM on corruption complaints over Amphan relief

It is alleged that the compensation of Rs 20,000 went to numerous people who suffered no loss during the Cyclone. CM Mamata Banerjee has asked district administrations to review the payments and take back the money.

Rivals CPI(M), TMC share similar pictures of relief operations after Cyclone Amphan, trigger row

The picture showed some people carrying relief material on a boat after Cyclone Amphan. A Kolkata-based organization, however, said that the relief material was sent by them and they had shared the pictures with O’Brien.

The lawmakers have never witnessed this unnatural phenomenon before, even after the cyclone Aila that devastated large parts in and around the Sunderbans in 2009.

The centre had earlier announced a relief package of Rs 1,000 crore for Bengal after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an aerial survey of the two worst hit districts on May 23.

Ice cream worth Rs 15 crore lost due to power cuts in Cyclone Amphan hit Kolkata

According to estimates provided by the IICMA, there are around 30,000 outlets, including neighbourhood shops, in the city and another 500 distributors. Each outlet on an average keeps a stock of ice cream worth Rs 5000 while the distributors keep a stock of Rs 40,000 – Rs 50,000 on any given day.

Once the ice cream melts it can’t be refrigerated and frozen again. It won’t retain the same texture, taste and look. Customers won’t like it any more, an ice cream manufacturer said.(GETTY IMAGES.)
