COVAX supply likely to resume this month

India halted the export of vaccines against Covid-19 in April this year after a severe second wave hit the country that impacted the COVAX facility, a global risk-sharing mechanism for pooled procurement and equitable distribution of anti Covid-19 vaccines.

Covid vaccines via Covax to be sent only to least covered nations in Oct: WHO

A total of 49 least covered countries have been identified for allocating around 75 million Covid-19 vaccines, in a move that aims to eradicate the deficit between poorer nations where many are yet to be jabbed with the first dose, and their richer counterparts that have begun giving booster shots.

WHO chief thanks Mansukh Mandaviya for resuming vaccine exports to COVAX pool

Sharing a tweet, the WHO chief wrote, “Thank you Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for announcing India will resume crucial Covid vaccine shipments to COVAX in October.”

Calling it an “important development”, the WHO chief further said India’s contribution will help all COVAX-supported countries reach the 40 per cent vaccination target rate by the end of the year.(REUTERS)

US to share millions of Covid-19 shots with Latin America, Africa and Asia

UNICEF reaches Covid-19 vaccine supply agreement with Moderna

"Through the supply agreement, UNICEF, along with procurement partners including the PanAmerican Health Organization (PAHO), will have access to up to 34 million doses of the vaccine for around 92 countries and territories in 2021," UNICEF said.

UNICEF said the vaccines are expected to be delivered in the final quarter of 2021.(Reuters)

Covax says needs $2 billion more by June for poor countries

Covax said it has already delivered 70 million vaccine doses to 126 countries, but faces a shortfall of 190 million at the end of June because of the "severe impact on Covax's supply in the second quarter of this year... (from) the terrible surge of the virus in India".
