Beant Singh Memorial Centre: 6 years on, Chandigarh admn to finally start construction of auditorium, convention centre

In 2019, the UT administration approved the development of the Centre along the lines of the India International Centre in New Delhi. As per the plan, the memorial was to have nine components but only four have so far been completed. These include a library, a memorial, an open-air theatre, and a cafeteria.

A new 20,000 sqm exhibition-cum-convention centre is being developed in Bengaluru's Whitefield, catering to the city's growing demand for business event spaces.

The facility, by the Karnataka Trade Promotion Organization (KTPO), will provide parking for 5,000 vehicles and easy metro access.

CITCO refuses to refund 9.5 crore to Chandigarh administration

In the recent meeting of Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited, the officers decided not to refund the amount as it was the mistake of the UT administration for not clearing the drawings of the centre on time

After CITCO failed to utilise the grant for the construction of a convention centre, the UT administration handed over the flats to the health department in July and also directed CITCO to refund the complete amount with interest. (HT File)
