Odisha asks people to remain vigilant as 11000 samples test negative for bird flu

The veterinary department said so far around 11,000 samples of migratory birds in several waterbodies including Chilika Lake have been tested, but all the samples have been detected negative for the disease.

On Thursday, around 300 samples including a few birds from a poultry farm of Khurda tested negative for bird flu.(HT PHOTO.)

Odisha’s Chilika Lake logs its highest ever count with 11.42 lakh migratory birds

The annual bird count of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon undertaken on Tuesday revealed a record presence of 11.42 lakh migratory birds from 190 species.

Covering an approx area of 1,100 sq km, the lagoon is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds in India. It welcomes numerous species of endangered birds every winter season.(HT PHOTO.)

Caught in storm, Malaysian cargo ship drifts close to Chilika lake in Odisha

The ship carrying cargo from Malaysia had unloaded its shipment in Bangladesh and was on its way to the Vishakhapatnam port to pick up a new cargo when its machines malfunctioned.
