22 made-in-Himachal drug samples fail quality test

The central drug control organisation had drawn samples from across the country in May. It found that 52 samples did not meet the standards, of which 22 were manufactured in Himachal. The state drug controlling authorities have asked the erring industries to call back the stocks of failed samples from the market.

Tamil Nadu firm told to suspend eye drops’ manufacturing

The manufacturers were directed to “stop the manufacturing activities of all the products under the category of ophthalmic preparations till the completion of investigation”, the report added.

CDSCO inspects drugs factory for compliance

India’s pharmaceutical standards authority has started random inspections of drug factories to check for regulatory compliance, the health ministry announced on Tuesday, a fallout of an Indian company’s cough syrups being linked to deaths in Gambia.

The inspections by the CDSCO are being conducted on the directions of health minister Mansukh Mandaviya in collaboration with state drugs regulators across the country, the ministry said in a statement.

Cough syrups probe: Haryana firm keeps shut as Centre takes steps to curb damage

Cosmetic makers can’t be mandated to put veg, non-veg labels, HC told

In an affidavit, the CDSCO said that the Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) has not “agreed for mandating green (for vegetarian) or red (for non-vegetarian) dot on every packet of cosmetic as it may complicate the regulation and add regulatory burden on the stakeholders”.

Labelling cosmetics as vegetarian and non-vegetarian cannot be made mandatory for manufacturers and they may do so voluntarily or on their own discretion, CDSCO has told Delhi high court.
