HC clears bridge on Desai Creek which will cut Kalyan – Shilphata Rd travel time to 60%

The Bombay High Court has allowed the Thane Municipal Corporation to construct a bridge on Desai Creek, which is expected to cut traffic congestion on a major road by 25% and reduce travel time by 60%. The court granted permission on the basis that the bridge would aid sustainable development, and that necessary permissions had already been granted by environmental authorities. The civic body had to seek permission from the high court after a previous judgement prohibited construction within mangrove forests and a 50 metre buffer zone around them.

Lokayukta asks MPCB to monitor air pollution in Taloja for a month

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has been ordered to deploy an observation van in Taloja to monitor air pollution levels and identify industrial units releasing obnoxious gases, while directing them to install pollution-control devices. The order also highlighted the presence of unauthorised construction in the 500 metre buffer zone from the boundary of notified common integrated treatment, storage and disposal facilities. The matter has been adjourned until 2 June.

Proposal to relocate 3 villages in Chhattisgarh tiger reserve sent to Centre

As per Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) (wildlife) Arun Pandey, there are a total of 25 villages in the core area of tiger reserve out of which six villages were relocated and rehabilitated in 2010.
