RBI did not print even one Rs 2,000 note in 2019-20

The number of Rs 2,000 notes peaked at 3.36 billion units (or pieces) in 2017-18. This number dropped to 3.29 billion in 2018-19. It has fallen again to 2.73 billion in 2019-20

How Venezuela turns its useless bank notes into gold

Paid with the country’s near-worthless bank notes, so-called artisan miners in turn supply the government with hard currency to purchase badly needed imports of food and hygiene products. Venezuela sells most of its gold to Turkish refineries, then uses some of the proceeds to buy that nation’s consumer goods, according to people with direct knowledge of the trade.

Nepal writes to Reserve Bank of India to declare new Indian currency notes legal

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has written a letter on Friday to the Reserve Bank of India, asking it to make Indian bank bills ₹200, ₹500 and ₹2,000 legal tender in Nepal, The Himalayan Times reported.

RBI reduces printing of 2000 note to minimum: Report

When the ₹2000 note was launched, it was decided that printing would be “scaled down” going forward, since the new high currency value note was meant for meeting the remonetisation need.

Soon after the sudden decision to ban old <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>500/1000 currency notes by the government, the RBI had come out with the <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>2000 currency note along with a new-look <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>500 note as part of its massive remonetisation exercise.(Reuters)

Reserve Bank of India to soon issue new Rs 20 bank note

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data bank, there were 4.92 billion pieces of Rs 20 note in circulation as on March 31, 2016. The number more than doubled to about 10 billion pieces by March 2018.

RBI looking to develop app to help visually impaired identify new notes

The Reserve Bank of India has informed the Delhi high court that it is exploring the feasibility of developing a device for identification of bank notes by the visually impaired.
