Imran Khan takes austerity drive to US; says no to expensive hotel will stay in envoy’s house

To reduce cost of his US trip, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to stay at the official residence of his country envoy in Washington amid an austerity drive by the government to solve the cash-strapped nation’s financial woes.

Officials in Islamabad are believed to have informed the Pakistan embassy that Prime Minister Khan desires to stay at the ambassador’s official residence in Washington during his three-day visit to the US starting from July 21.(AFP)

Fuel tax cut: UP may have to reduce expenses, borrow funds

The UP state government, which is already facing a resource strain, may have to reduce expenditure further or opt for additional borrowings to fund development works in the coming months and make up for the ₹4000 crore loss on account of the decision to slash tax on fuel.

UP govt announces austerity measures for officials

The Uttar Pradesh government has asked its officials to curtail expenses on foreign visits, fly economy class and avoid holding lunch or dinner meetings at five-star hotels.

The order by the Yogi Adityanath government specifically mentions that official visits should be kept to a minimum unless these are important and essential. Besides, babus should travel economy class if they have to take flights for official visits.(File Photo)

Mamata cuts luxury travel for ministers, announces ‘one person, one car’ policy
