Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Captain Singh, saying, “... I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Chopper crash: Cpt Varun Singh being shifted to Bengaluru hospital

Singh’s father, Colonel KP Singh (retired), a resident of Bhopal, was in Wellington where the critically injured group captain was undergoing treatment at a military hospital. "He is being shifted to Bengaluru. I have reached Wellington," he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The Indian Army's much-venerated general shared a strong bond with Shahdol, in Madhya Pradesh. He got married to Madhulika, the daughter of late Kunwar Mrigendra Singh of Sohagpur Garhi in the Shahdol district, back in 1986 when he was still a captain in the army.

Indian Navy gets first two MH-60 Romeo multi-role helicopters from US

The helicopters were formally handed over by the US Navy to the Indian Navy in a ceremony held at the United States naval air station in San Diego's North Island. The choppers were accepted from the Indian side by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Indian ambassador to the USA.
