Economics student at PU and ex-vice-president of Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) Snigdha Bawa said, “Every girl on the campus is well aware of the fact that our campus is not safe during night time. University is still trying to provide the shuttle bus services for the girl students during night.”
Another hosteller Ankita Jain said, “The decision of allowing girls to study in libraries and work in laboratories for late hours like boys is a good initiative, but at the same time, the authorities did not even bother to check if we have adequate security on the campus.”
While Radhika Sharma resident of one of the girls’ hostels said the firing incident that happened on the campus left the authorities baffled as they could not do anything to avoid it. The sad truth is that varsity swings into action only after such major incidents take place and the precautions taken after that are also temporary. ”
One of them suggested that why can’t the security staff have more women employees.
Student bodies seek probe into firing incident
Senior leaders of Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) on Sunday again issued statements alleging that one of the accused Naval whose name is in the FIR has been illegally detained since he was not even present in the university when the firing incident had happened and he had only come to see Resham Singh Godara who was admitted to PGI then.
