Formed on May 10, the committee was asked to take immediate action on issues of the college highlighted in recent syndicate meetings.

The college has also decided to provide 20 casual leaves to the teachers instead of eight, besides reducing the fee structure of all courses and prospectus.

Interestingly, the college decided to follow the norms of the PU Calendar only after the committee was formed. Earlier, the college was providing only eight casual leaves to the teachers, salary in defiance of the PU Calendar, and the fee of all courses was almost double than that prescribed by the university.

While the college prospectus in 2011 cost Rs 400, the college charged Rs 500 for it in 2012. However, this year, the cost of prospectus is Rs 300.

When contacted, college principal Charanjit Kaur Mahal, said, "We abide by all instructions received from the university. We have enhanced the salaries of teachers in accordance with the UGC norms and PU Calendar."

Meanwhile, a PU senate and syndicate member, on the condition of anonymity, said, "No college can overcharge fee from the students. If any college is doing so, strict action should be taken against that college by the vice-chancellor."

The PU registrar on June 22, 2010, had sent a letter to all affiliated colleges to increase the fee for courses, which were approved by the senate. However, the increase was subject to the condition that all colleges would pay salary, retiral benefits, provident fund, leave encashment, house rent allowance and dearness allowance, as amended from time to time by the state government and university.
