Demand for public cycle sharing scheme increasing across Pune
Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd had launched the public bicycle sharing service on December 5 in the presence of Pune mayor Mukta Tilak, vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar and MLA Medha Kulkarni.
With the public bicycle sharing system getting popular, the demand for the service is increasing in various parts of the city.

The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) is looking at launching the scheme in various localities.
Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd chief executive officer Rajendra Jagtap, said, “After launching the public bicycle sharing system at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Aundh area, demand for the same has come up in Pune and Khadki Cantonment, Agriculture College, Karve Shree Shikshan Sanstha and Magarpatta city. They all have requested to launch this scheme in their localities.”

The cycle facility is available at ₹1 rent for the first half an hour. PSDCDL has launched this scheme in association with Zoomcar’s PEDL initiative.
The Smart City corporation has placed 100 cycles at Savitribai Phule Pune University and 75 cycles in Aundh area.
Within the first week, 5,591 citizens used this service and it is becoming more popular, said Jagtap. PSCDCL is planning to extend this service at more locations in Aundh area as there is already a need to start it at 20 to 25 locations.
With the demand growing from other areas also for the same scheme, Smart City corporation is considering their demands.
Zoomcar CEO and co-founder Greg Moran said, “It is a privilege to be here in Pune and part of this event to kick off the first-of-its-kind initiative. It is extremely convenient and very healthy for the environment.”
As the citizen’s response is positive towards the scheme, PSCDCL is eager to extend this facility in other areas. Response at both the locations is good, said Jagtap. PEDL is a smart, affordable and environment-friendly cycle sharing service for short trips around the city.
