In the absence of written orders received for suspension of inspector Hom Singh Yadav, senior police officials have transferred him to the police lines. Yadav was the senior-most officer in the 12-member team that conducted the raid in Nai Abadi area where sub-inspector Akhtar Khan was shot dead on Monday morning. On the day of the incident, inspector general of police, Meerut Zone, Sujit Pandey, had said that Yadav would be suspended.

“He has been transferred to police lines for laxity in duty,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar.

Yadav, 57, was the station house officer (SHO), Dadri, and has been replaced by inspector Jitender Kalra, who was transferred from Dankaur.

On Monday, the police team had received information that suspects of armed robberies and snatching cases were hiding at a house in Nai Abadi, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kot police post. Khan was posted as the in-charge of the police post and hence was leading the team. He was the first to knock on the door of the house where the suspects were hiding.

According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the door opened, bullets started flying from inside the house and hit Khan in the neck, following which he collapsed. Witnesses and Khan’s kin have also alleged that the police team abandoned the sub-inspector immediately after, following which he died.
Khan’s family has been demanding satisfactory answers as to what exactly happened.
“It has been two days since he was killed and the police have taken no action against any of the team members. If they keep delaying the probe, we will stage a protest and demand a CBI enquiry in the matter,” said Yameen Khan, brother of the deceased.
According to the police, they are inquiring into the family’s allegations. “The SP crime branch is investigating into the allegations made by Khan’s family,” said Yadav.
