The operation was launched by newly appointed senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dharmendra Singh Yadav on June 3 to check crime in the city.

“The operation is aimed at putting behind the bar the criminals suspected of being involved in street and organised crimes. During the month-long operation, police personnel have been asked to arrest as many criminals as they can,” said Yadav.

Among the 99 arrested accused is Manoj Bhati, who the police suspect was involved in the murder of Dadupur village’s headman Harender Nagar last year. According to the police, he allegedly shot Nagar and his bodyguard Bhudev Sharma and was on the run for one year since then, the police said.

“A reward of R5,000 was declared for Bhati’s arrest. He was produced in the court and was sent to jail,” said Laxmi Singh Chauhan, station house officer, Greater Noida police station.

Under the seven-point plan of the operation, the SSP has asked officials to launch a crackdown on suspects wanted in heinous cases.

“Suspects wanted in cases of robbery, murder, attempt to murder, rape, dowry death and under the Arms Act are considered special report cases. The first phase of the operation will focus on these cases,” said Yadav.

In the second phase, officers have been asked to crackdown on those wanted in cases that involve imprisonment of over seven years. The third phase will be a crackdown on suspects wanted under the Gangster Act, followed by the fourth phase in which absconding accused of dowry cases will be arrested.

“In the fifth and sixth phases, the officers will crackdown on suspects wanted in Gunda Act and those against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued by the city court,” said Yadav.
